I am on a walk with R in the rose garden. It's sunny out and I feel spring coming. We near one of my favorite trees. R runs ahead of me, leading the way on our park adventure.
Me: “Ooh, wait! Slow down, I want to say hi to the Juniper Tree. “
We slow down, I touch the tree and take in its beautiful smell. I feel my body light up. It’s the best smell ever! R is watching me, he smiles. He runs to the other side of the tree, whispers something to the leaves and then picks some. He runs back to me, with a big smile and an open hand full of juniper.
R: “Here! It’s for you! It makes you happy! I asked the tree if I could pick some, it said yes.”
These children are learning to read emotions, take care of others, and to listen to plants. If I did anything to help that, my work is a wild success.
